Government will spend US$ 650 million on constructing 650 health posts country wide.
Health Deputy Minister, Christopher Mulenga, told Parliament today that government is committed to upgrading infrastructure in the health sector in order to improve service delivery.
Mr Mulenga disclosed that the funds were sourced from India, adding that government plans to set up more health facilities once it has adequate funding.
He was responding to a question by United Party for National Development (UPND) Mulobezi Member of Parliament, Hastings Sililo, who wanted to know when health facilities will be constructed at Kamenyani, Kamanga, Bridge, Mulanga, Namena, Loze, Lusibi, Mung’ambwa, Kasompa ,Machile ,and Nanga in Mulobezi District.
Meanwhile, another Health Deputy Minister, Patrick Chikusu, has disclosed that plans are underway to upgrade Kabwe General Hospital to a District Hospital.
Dr Chikusu told parliament that the Ministry of Health is putting measures in place that will enable the hospital upgrade on its service delivery.
He was responding to a question by Kabwe Central Member of Parliament, James Kapyanga, who wanted to know what measures the Government has taken to decongest Kabwe General Hospital and what the nurse-patient ratio at the hospital was as of September, 2012, and what measures the ministry has taken to address the shortage of nurses at the health institution.
And Health Deputy Minister, Christopher Mulenga, told parliament that Phase Two of the construction of Masaiti District Hospital will be completed by 2014.
Mr Mulenga said Phase One of construction of the hospital has been completed and the hospital will be in operation by the second quarter of next year.
The minister was reacting to a question by Masaiti Member of Parliament ,Michael Katambo, who wanted to know when construction of the Masaiti District Hospital will be completed and opened to the public.
