As Zambians are trying to comprehend a fatal bus and truck accident that killed over 50 people in Chibombo district last week, another big bus has collided with a Hiace minibus with one person dying in the process.
Today’s accident occurred at Kafunka area in Katete district along Great East Road when a Marcopolo bus, which was driven by Chisenga Kalunga aged 35 of Makeni Township in Lusaka, collided with a Toyota Haice minibus around 06:00 hours.
Police Spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela, who confirmed the accident to ZANIS in Lusaka today, said the Hiace minibus was being driven by 32 year old Davis Ng’andwe of Garden House in Lusaka.
Ms. Kanjela said Ng’andwe died on the spot while eight people who were on the Marcopolo bus and one passenger in the Hiace minibus sustained injuries.
She said the accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Haice, registration number ALC 8695, lost control due to over speeding and hit into a Zambia-Malawi Marcopolo bus registration number ABP 2994.
The Marcopolo bus was travelling from Chipata to Lusaka.
Ms. Kanjela said the injured people have since been admitted to St. Francis Hospital in Katete district in Eastern province while the body of the deceased was lying in the mortuary at the same hospital.
