Government has decentralized the issuance of the National Registration Cards by opening up issuance centers in Lusaka district.
Lusaka District Commissioner Ashwell Kampengele confirmed the development in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today.
Mr Kampengele said the decentralization of National Registration Cards has began as a pilot project in Lusaka with a view to spreading to other parts of the country once it succeeds.
The Lusaka District Commissioner stated that Chilenje and Matero will be the first centers that will be opened under this project.
He noted that the decentralization of the centers have been necessitated by the huge demand for the services in the city.
He observed that the decentralization exercise will reduce the long queues at the Lusaka boma which has been operating as a sole centre adding that the process will in addition help people to serve money because most of them travel from distant places.
He said the government has started with Lusaka because of the vast growing population.
Mr Kampengele further disclosed that the digitalising of National Registration Cards will start as soon as possible stating that all the people with old cards will have to renew them.
