Eastern province Permanent Secretary Chileshe Mulenga has challenged Science Teachers in schools to be pro-active in their work in order to promote and enhance science subjects in the province.
Dr Mulenga made the challenge when he flagged off 20 new assembled school mobile Laboratory equipment held at Lundazi Boarding Secondary School yesterday.
The Permanent Secretary observed that Science Teachers plays a noble role in promoting and strengthening Science subjects in schools as Science is a key to any development of a country.
He said for Zambia to become a middle income economic country by the year 2030, Science and Technology subjects have to be promoted, added that the vision can only be achieved through hard work of Science Teachers in Zambia.
And speaking earlier, National Science Centre Principal Education Officer, Mr Benson Banda said government vision is to provide all Secondary Schools in Zambia with new Mobile Laboratory equipment to enhance Science teaching by Science teachers.
He said Science pupils in most schools in Zambia only learn Science through theory teaching and not in practice.
He also observed that this has contributed to pupils performing poorly in Science subjects, hence the PF government coming up with idea of mobile laboratory equipment.
Mr Banda said this was a pilot project that has costed National Science Centre a total of K550, 000 and that the new mobile assembled Science Lab equipment will be distributed to 20 Secondary Schools in the province.
