—Government will soon embark on a water reticulation programme in Luangwa District.

The programme will be implemented through the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC).

Luangwa District Commissioner, Eunie Mumba, confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview in Luangwa.

Mr Mumba said Luangwa District has been struggling with the challenges of water reticulation despite the district having the Zambezi and Luangwa rivers.

He said ground water in the District is not fit for consumption because it is salty, hence the need to tap the water from the Luangwa river.

Meanwhile, Mr Mumba said the district does not have enough health personnel to meet the number of people in the district.

He said the people that are most affected by the shortage of health personnel are pregnant women and children.

Mr Mumba said despite the challenges of health personnel the district has 15 health centres which are enough to meet the demand.

He added that the other challenge that the district is faced with is the lack of referrals for patients because the District Hospital is still under construction.

And Luangwa Council Secretary, Peter Nguluwe, said the district is delighted to note that the D145 road which, is about 87 Kilometres, will be tarred.

Mr Nguluwe noted that the tarring of the D145 Road will enhance development and boost the tourism industry in the district.
