Police open Lusaka PF cadre violence docket

So far, 19 people have been apprehended in connection with the violence and the subsequent killing of one man.

Meanwhile, several stakeholders have condemned the barbaric act and called on the police to thoroughly investigate the matter.

On Thursday, PF cadres clashed using machetes and pangas resulting in the death of one person yet to be indentified, while others were seriously injured.

Police spokesperson Charity Chanda said in an interview yesterday that police were on the ground looking for perpetrators of violence.

Ms Chanda said so far, 19 people had been apprehended and were being interrogated before police could charge them.

And several stakeholders, including Defence minister Geoffrey Mwamba have condemned the violence and regretted the death of a person.

Mr Mwamba, who posted on his facebook page, said Thursday’s incident was unfortunate and called on stakeholders to support the police and other law enforcement agencies to bring the culprits to book.

“To all those nursing their wounds in our hospitals, I join many Zambians within and outside PF in sharing your pain,” he said.

Non Governmental Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) chairperson Beatrice Girillo said it was unacceptable that a person was killed because of political differences.

Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hachilema said violence had no room in Zambia and called on the PF top leadership to address the differences.
