Police search PF Lusaka Province chairman Geoffrey Chuumbwe’s houses

POLICE in Lusaka yesterday searched Patriotic Front (PF) Lusaka Province chairman Geoffrey Chuumbwe’s houses and found four licenced guns.
Police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said in an interview yesterday that police found three riffles and a pistol in Mr Chuumbwe’s houses in Lusaka and Chongwe.
“We instituted investigations against Mr Chuumbwe following his statement that he has an armory. During our investigations, we discovered four guns, which are licenced. There are three riffles and a pistol,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga said an armory is a perquisite of the State and possession of such a privilege by an individual constitutes a crime.
He said police searched Mr Chuumbwe’s flat number 14 on Bwinjimfumu Road in Rhodespark and a house at a farm in Kapilyomba in Chongwe.
Mr Hamoonga said it is the duty of the police to investigate such pronouncements.
And when contacted for a comment over the matter, Mr Chuumbwe said police officers searched his house in Rhodespark, a farm house in Chongwe and some of his business houses.
“I can confirm that the police searched my house in Rhodespark and my farm in Chongwe because of the reports of the militia and armory statements attributed to me. I cannot blame them because they were only doing their job,” he said.
Mr Chuumbwe is reported to have recently said Robert Chikwelete and his people cannot get near his house because it is an armory.
