The Diabetics Association of Zambia (DAZ) has expressed concern on the rising numbers of people being diagnosed with diabetes in the country.
Diabetics Association of Zambia Secretary for Lusaka Branch Augustine Mukuka said the rise is due mainly unhealthy lifestyles and poor diets.
Mr. Mukuka has since advised Zambians to recheck their way of living if they are to lead diabetes free lives.
He said the association has lately been conducting screening for diabetes exercises and has received an overwhelming response from the members of the public.
Mr. Mukuka explained that from the test findings, a number of people who are 35 years and above are diabetic.
He further said the association was working towards establishing diabetic centres across the country.
He said the diabetics association was at the moment seeking to scale up its establishment to district levels because it is already present in all ten provinces.
Mr. Mukuka said DAZ was in the process of looking at how it could come up with posters and fliers carrying messages of how to live without diabetes.
He however complained of inadequate resources for the association to successful create diabetics centres.
Mr. Mukuka has since appealed to the Zambian business community financially help the association so that awareness on diabetics can be spread to all parts of the country.
