Five candidates have successfully filed in their nomination papers to contest the forthcoming Mpongwe Parliamentary by election slated for February 28.
PF candidate, Gabriel Namulambe, successfully filed in his nomination before Returning Officer, Jaokim Mangwale, at exactly 12:45 hours today.
Vice President, Guy Scott, who was accompanied by Agriculture Minister, Emmanuel Chenda, Sport Minister Chishimba Kambwili, Copperbelt Minister, Mwenye Musenge and other senior Government officials, witnessed Mr Namulambe’s filing in of nomination.
Mr Namulambe said shortly after filing in his nomination that victory for the PF in the election was certain.
He said the party will not leave any stone unturned to ensure it mops up all the votes in the area during election time.
Mr Namulambe thanked the PF for the confidence the party has shown in him by adopting him to stand on its ticket and the people of Mpongwe for the support and encouragement they have continued to give.
And PF Campaign Manager for the Mpongwe by election, Jean Kapata, said the opposition has no chance to scoop the Mpongwe seat because the people of Mpongwe want the PF.
Ms Kapata said the PF is on the ground and come election time the opposition will be getting zeroes in some polling stations.
And the MMD candidate, Miniver Mutesa, remained optimistic of winning the election, claiming that she is very popular in the area.
