BARCLAYS Bank Zambia has rolled out more than 1,000 terminals for debit card payments in all the 10 provinces of the country for easy business transactions.
The bank’s managing director Saviour Chibiya said the move followed the overwhelming feedback the bank had been receiving which enabled it to roll out the 1,000 terminals for debit cards across the country.
Mr Chibiya said at the Barclays Premier Cocktail on Wednesday evening that the bank had made huge investments in technology which would reduce time spent by customers on cash transactions.
“We have so far rolled out more than 1,000 debt card terminals in all the 10 provinces of the country for easy transactions for our customers because Barclays wants to be the best banking service provider in the country,” Mr Chibiya said.
He disclosed that the bank was in the process of deploying Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) which the clients would be using to deposit cash.
“Barclays is the pioneer bank in technology having rolled out the first ATMs that is why we want to build on that experience.
We have branches in countries like in South Africa that are more advanced technologically which will not make it difficult to replicate the same in Zambia,” he said.
Meanwhile, Absa Group Limited chief executive officer, retail banking Graig Bond has said Africa was the most fast-growing economy with the projected economic growth of more than six per cent per annum.
Mr Graig said the bank would continue making further investments in Africa and Zambia in particular due to its economic potential for growth.
“Zambia, like other African countries, has got potential to continue recording further growth because of stability, unity and the level of technology coupled with the natural resources,” Mr Bond said.
At the same function the bank honoured customers who have been with the bank for more than 30 years with various gifts.
