MINISTER of Youth and Sport Chishimba Kambwili has directed the Copperbelt police command to deploy enough officers at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to curb lawlessness during today’s 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifier between Zambia and Sudan.
Kambwili said in an interview yesterday that throwing of objects on the running track creates a bad impression about Zambia’s tranquility.
“I am directing the police command on the Copperbelt to deploy a lot of officers, especially to the area where the incident happened,” he said in reference to last Saturday’s episode of some fans throwing objects on the running track to celebrate Zambia’s second goal in the 4-0 trouncing of Lesotho.
Kambwili described the incident as unfortunate and uncalled for.
He said if the throwing of objects continues, FIFA could close Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
“If that behaviour continues, FIFA will fine Zambia or close Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. We were lucky that the match commissioner did not include the incident in his report,” Kambwili said.
He also called on fans to celebrate in a sober manner.
