Luangeni MP urges farmers to diversify
Chipata, June 10,2013, ZANIS… Luangeni independent Member of Parliament Charles
Zulu has advised farmers to diversify into off season business ventures.
Mr Zulu , who also energy and water development deputy minister said this will help
the farmers improve their financial base and uplift their living standards at household level.
Mr Zulu said farmers should diversify their agricultural and
commercial activities by investing the money realized from the sell of
off season produce such as vegetable gardening, poultry and other businesses.
He was speaking at the official opening of the eastern block
agricultural show held at Makwe basic cchool grounds in Paramount
Chief Mpezeni’s area in Chipata over the weekend.
Mr Zulu further called on farmers to exercise patience by selling their maize
to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) at a government recommended rate of
KR65.00.
He said there was no need for farmers to sell their produce to
unscrupulous traders whose interest was to make huge profits at the
expense of the farmers.

The area MP further implored farmers, women clubs, cooperatives and
individuals to access money from the Citizen Economic Empowerment
Commission (CEEC) in order to improve their businesses.
