–Presiding Officer for the Feira constituency by-elections, Willard Siampondo, has described yesterday’s nominations as peaceful.
Mr Siampondo said the conduct portrayed by all the participating political parties is a clear testimony of their commitment to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct.
In an interview with ZANIS in Luangwa yesterday Mr Siampondo urged the political parties to continue exhibiting peaceful campaigns until the last day of the campaigns.
Mr Siampondo said the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) will continue to hold public fora for the nominated candidates so that they can understand and educate their supporters on the Electoral Code of Conduct.
Yesterday, a total of five candidates successfully filed in their nominations ahead of the Feira Constituency Parliamentary by-election which will be held on June 23, 2013.
According to the ECZ’s Electoral Code of Conduct, the successful filing in of nominations by all the participating candidates marks the beginning of the election campaigns until the day before the election date.
The candidates for the Feira by-election include PF’s Patrick Ngoma, UNIP’s Charles Kanyama, NAREP’s Samuel Sikaonga, MMD’s Elias Phiri, and UPND’s Aurelia Zulu.
The Feira seat fell vacant after the resignation Patrick Ngoma from the MMD to join the ruling PF.
