General Education Minister Hon. DR. John Phiri has expressed regret on the untimely death of 5 pupils and 1 teacher from Hillcrest Technical Secondary school in a road traffic accident last night at about 22hrs . The Hon. Minister is also conveying his condolences to the families of the deceased and school management. The Minister would further like to inform the nation that all funeral expenses will be borne by Government and all arrangements will be communicated.
The Ministry of General Education has since suspended the Coca Cola sporting event that was scheduled to start today in Monze at Canicius Secondary school ,until further notice.
Those that have died are Hayungu Titus G9, Banda Gabriel G12, Kaputa Mukumbi G11, Siame Remmy G12, Robby Zulu G10 died on the way to hospital and the teacher is Sikaaswe Siyasiya.
Those still in hospital are Mukubesa Sitali G12, Bupe Mutale G10, Wesly Kafunda G10, Bright Bwalya G12, Albert Lungu G12, Martin Mazumbo G12, Chiunda Joseph G11 is in a critical condition and evacuated to Livingstone.
The Ministry has in the past banned transportation of pupils in lorries travelling in the night.
