Choma Mayor Javen Simoloka on Thursday challenged Southern Province Minister Dr. Edify Hamukale at a public gathering where people from various villages assembled to complain about the unfairness involved in buying Maize at the Choma Food Reserve Agency Shed.
Simoloka sent the crowd that gathered at the Provincial Administration into joyful applauses when he said the government was politically tormenting the people of Southern Province because they did not vote for the ruling Patriotic Front in the 2016 general elections.
Simoloka said government responded quickly when it heard that people in Eastern Province were eating Mangoes but no action has been taken in an even worse situation in Southern Province where literally nothing was harvested.
He urged the Minister to tell the government the truth about the hunger that has hit the Province so that a solution can be provided as soon as possible.
Simoloka said it was also a torment of the highest order for government to be giving a family of five people a 12.5 Kilogramme bag of Mealie Meal as relief food when it boasts of having enough Maize stock for everyone.
Meanwhile, there was drama at the gathering when Southern Province Minister began directing some questions that were posed to him to the Acting Choma District Commissioner Hope Chiposo.
One of the questions that the Minister, in apparent disbelief, directed to the Acting DC was why families were being given a 12.5 kilogramme bag of Mealie Meal as relief food to share instead of giving a bag to an individual family member as it was in other provinces.
