TRADERS AT CHOMA’S MAKALANGUZU MARKET MOURN LOSSES TO AN INFERNO
Traders at Makalanguzu Market in Choma have lost undisclosed amounts in property and investment to an inferno that gutted one of the biggest warehouses this morning.
Although the cause of the fire remains unknown, eye witness accounts have told Byta FM News that the inferno started from a nearby garbage site where traders throw waste.
Traders say they have lost among other items sacks of groundnuts as well as bales of clothes and shoes whose value is not yet known.
Meanwhile, some traders almost descended on Choma Fire Brigade officers, blaming them for late response saying some items could have being saved had the fired department responded promptly.
A check by a Byta FM News crew after noon found the fire department, which was struggling to put out the fire, going for a refill of water while the inferno continued its destruction.
But one of the firefighters who only identified himself as Katyamba says the department received the tipoff late and has since advised the public quickly report fire incidents by making use of the 993 free toll line.
