It’s sorry sight, but we must find a lasting solution to these fires that are leaving our mothers and youth devastated and preventing them from earning a living out of these trading places.
A better, safe and conducive business enabling environment is what we have assured our brothers and sisters trading at the gutted COMESA market in Lusaka.
In the company of our party vice president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba and our Lusaka Mayoral candidate, Pastor Kangwa Chileshe, we sympathised with the marketeers but stated that we shall, with those willing to join hands with us, begin rendering support to those whose property has been lost due to these fires.
Other than finding alternative trading places for the marketeers and street vendors, we are of the view that a special basket fund is created for such emergencies. There will be those who will argue about where such funds can be raised; it’s simple, our mothers and youth pay taxes and those taxes must be used for such an important remedial cause and not ending up in hands of a few politically exposed persons.
We will surely depoliticise the public trading places and ensure that out of these markets, we can grow our economy.
May God Bless our Country.
