I DID NOT run away from the police or courts but from thugs whose relevance depends on beating and killing people for their bosses, says Chama Fumba.
Fumba, commonly known as Pilato, who has fled the country due to alleged death threats from Patriotic Front supporters and operatives over his recent hit song, Koswe mu mpoto, said after the announcement that he was being sought by Interpol, he had visited a number of countries without being questioned by police and therefore would be returning to Zambia very soon and would be happy to appear in court.
He concluded that the state lied to the courts that Interpol was pursuing him.
“I would like to announce that Interpol has not arrested or contacted me yet. After the announcement, I have visited a number of countries without any police officer stopping me. I am sure the state lied to the courts or Interpol refused to be controlled by uncombed minds. But like promised…I will be coming back to my home country very soon and will be happy to appear in court…ndeisa yama (uncle, I am coming),” Pilato stated.
He further stated that when he left the country, there was no hunt down for him by the police and the courts had no cases against him and therefore his return was because he respected the courts.
Pilato stated that his return was an opportunity for him to stand up for what he believed in which he said was worth doing.
“To begin with, I did not run away from the police or courts but from thugs whose relevance depends on beating and killing people for their bosses. When I left the country, there was no hunt down by the police and the courts had no cases against me so my return is because I respect the courts…The way forward, I remain uncompromised on issues of social justice and inequalities amongst humans,” stated Pilato whose new song seems to take a swipe at the alleged corruption and theft by the government.
