Gwembe Member of Parliament Chisangano Malungo says women are the backbone of every home and the country at large.

Speaking during the women’s day celebrations held in Munyumbe in gwembe district, Mrs. Chisangano said despite the challenges that most women face, they still work hard to improve not only their lives but also the lives of the entire family.

She said women should ensure that all school going children complete their education as they are the key influencers in their homes.

Mrs. Chisangano added that no girl child should be married off at an early age but should instead be encouraged to concentrate on education.

She said it is very sad to note that in the past two years, 2,000 school going girls fell pregnant in Gwembe district.

The law maker further thanked the Glassco Foundation for the commendable job they have been doing in the district of providing schools, health centers and clean water in the district for the past 20 years.

And Gwembe District Commissioner Justus Phiri said women’s day has evolved over the years as it is now appreciated even by men in society.

Mr. Phiri said it is good to know that women know their importance in the community and that they play an important role in development.

And Glassco Foundation Director Debbie Norman thanked the women of Gwembe for inviting her to such a great and important day in celebrating women.

Ms. Norman said every woman in the world fight for equal rights because they are equally as important as men.

She said from her observation, Zambian women are very hard working and cooperate in most of the activities.

Ms. Norman said as Glassco Foundation, they believe that women should have easy access to health care and clean water.

She said it is equally very important for everyone to support girls to remain or return to school and discourage early marriages. CHIKUNI RADIO
