The Aged People’s Association of Zambia, Mungwi District chapter is saddened by the high rate of divorce cases recorded last year in Northern Province.
Chapter chairperson, Philip Katenda tells Mano News that divorce cases are on the increase due to varying factors citing lack of moral dress code for the womenfolk and poverty among others.
According to latest statistics obtained from the local court office, Northern Province recorded a total number of 2,142 divorce cases in the year ended 2017.
The major cause of divorce in Northern Province was the love for money and material things.
And the experts have cited unfaithfulness, drunkenness, and lack of communication, violence, finances, parental interference and early marriages as prime contributing factors to divorce.
Meanwhile, these rising divorce cases alarming says a Kasama marriage counselor.
A traditional marriage counselor in Kasama, John Bwalya, says he is alarmed by the high rate of divorce cases recorded last year in Northern Province.
John Bwalya states that infidelity, gender based violence and external negative influence are the driving factors of many divorce cases.
Mr. Bwalya, popularly known as Shikulu Mwamba on Radio Mano’s traditional counselling programme, ‘UKUFUNDA UMWANA KUFIKAPO’ made the remarks in an interview with Mano News today.
