KASIKILI TEACHERS TERRORISED BY A SUSPECTED GANG WHILE POLICE NABS SUSPECT IN CONNECTION WITH THE ATROCIOUS ATTACKS
Teachers at Kasikili Basic School in Kalomo district of the Southern province are living in fear for their lives, following suspected gang-related attacks on the teaching staff at that school.
According to the teachers, the escalating attacks which are characterised by robberies, sexual harassment and ambushes have haunted the teachers in the area since August 2017.
And teachers on Thursday, 25th January, 2018 abandoned the school to seek refuge at the District Education Board Secretary’s office, after one of their colleagues was ambushed while two phone tablets were stolen in another incident, a situation that has cast a spell of fear among teachers.
A senior member of staff at the school has disclosed that teachers are feeling unsafe in school, wondering how teachers will effectively deliver in such conditions.
And when contacted for a comment on Friday, Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Bony Kapeso told Voice of Kalomo the report had not yet reached his office.
But intelligence network between teachers and Kalomo’s Police department has landed one suspect in connection with the robberies and attacks at the school behind bars.
The Police and teachers on Friday evening, 26th January 2018 nabbed a suspect, identified as Dormitory Katyamba of Kapaulu area while two others are said to be on the run.
Although the apprehension of the suspect has brought a sense of relief among the teachers, there is a likelihood according to the teachers that the gang is larger numerically.
