A ZAMBIAN studying in Botswana has died after falling from the 28th floor of a building in Gaborone.
Elisha Akayombokwa Johnson, 25, a student at the University of Botswana died on Saturday when he fell from the 28th floor of the iTower in the central business district of Gaborone.
First Secretary for Press at the Zambian Embassy in Botswana Kasabo Kalusa said in a statement issued yesterday that Mr Johnson died from injuries he sustained from the fall.
“The High Commission received with sadness and grief the news of Mr Johnson’s demise. His death is a loss of a beloved one to all of us, especially to his family and close friends,” Mr Kalusa said.
He said Mr Johnson was a distinguished student at the University of Botswana with numerous awards and accolades to his name.
The Botswana Police Service has informed the Mission of ongoing investigations into the incident.
Funeral gathering is in Maruapula and a church service in memory of Mr Johnson was held yesterday at the Open Baptist Church in Maruapula.
The Zambian community was encouraged to extend their moral and material support to the bereaved family as they made arrangements to have Mr Johnson’s remains repatriated back to Zambia for burial.
