LUSAKA, February 4th, 2017 — The Lusaka Fast Track court on Traffic offences has convicted and sentenced Patrick Lungu, of Mtendere Township in Lusaka to six months imprisonment for driving under the influence of alcohol contrary to section 157 of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002. Lungu 29, was also convicted for dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.
He was sentenced to six months imprisonment with effect from 31st January 2017 following his failure to pay the fine.
The Lusaka Fast Track court also convicted and fined 24 other motorists in the month of January 2017, for the same offence. The motorists convicted for drinking under the influence of alcohol during the month of January 2017 are Charles Chishima, Tembo Wilmot, Berry Siamate, Webby Chisela, Bwalya Kabwe, Swilavwe Chrispine, Mubaya kashinga, Eugine Mulenga, Andrew Mwandezi, and Njovu Gilbert.
Others are Bernard Jalati Chuulu, Mwelwa Peter, Albert Malama, Mukubesa machobani, Loyd Bwalya Kabwe, Mulali Chibasu Don, Mhango Chikumbusha, davie Muteba and Patrick ndunda kasoka.
Meanwhile the RTSA also secured convictions for other offences during the same month. The leading offences recorded were for expired road tax with 144 convictions, 40 for expired test certificate, 30 for dangerous driving, 25 for unlicensed drivers, 22 for uninsured motor vehicle and 21 for expired fitness certificates.
A total of 274 cases were taken to the Fast Track Court for the month of January, 2017 with some individuals having multiple counts (offences) resulting in a total of 428 offences .348 convictions were secured where as 80 other cases are still pending.
The RTSA, therefore secured convictions of 348 cases involving 232 individuals that were brought before the Lusaka fast Track court during the month of January 2017.
