Government says the anthrax disease which broke out in Muchinga Province has been contained.
Muchinga Province Minister Malozo Sichone said out of the 40 people who were infected with Anthrax at the time the disease broke out, only 4 people are still under treatment.
He said the 40 victims got infected by consuming meat which was infected by the Anthrax virus.
Mr Sichone said this was because the people lacked information on the effects of such vices.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today Mr. Sichone explained that state agencies had embarked on sensitization campaigns to alert people on the dangers of consuming anthrax infested.
He said Anthrax disease is endemic in western and North -western Province of Zambia and occurs throughout the year.
The Provincial Minister said there is need for the country to develop a workable strategy on how to control outbreaks of disease as they impact negatively on the economy of the country by affecting the livestock industry and public health.
Mr. Sichone urged people in Muchinga province to desist from consuming infected meat as it poses high risks to their health.
