The ruling Patriotic Front has justified the move by President Edgar Lungu to charter a private plane to travel to New York for the UN General Assembly.
PF Deputy Spokesperson Frank Bwalya says it was in fact cost effective for President Lungu to travel in the manner he did.
In an interview with QTV News, Mr. Bwalya says this is particularly that the UN General Assembly started before the president was sworn-in.
Mr. Bwalya says such costs the country’s incurs on the President’s travels cannot be avoided depending on a particular situation.
He states that President Lungu is however, conscious of the high cost of running government as demonstrated by the many times he has opted to use commercial flights.
Mr. Bwalya says the ruling PF thus believes that any attempts to paint a bad picture of the President in this respect will not work.
He was responding to opposition ADD leader Charles Milupi who has questioned the logic behind chartering a private plane for President Lungu amidst the economic woes Zambia is faced with.
