The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says it will not disqualify the Lundazi Central independent parliamentary Evans Ngoma who has withdrawn his earlier resignation from the Patriotic Front.
ECZ public Relations Manager Crispin Akufuna has explained that once the nomination papers are declared valid by the returning officer nothing can change.
Mr. Akufuna says the commission can only disqualify someone who does not have qualifications as stipulated by the constitution.
He says Mr. Ngoma had filed in his nominations as an independent candidate and therefore commission will consider him as such.
Mr. Akufuna adds that the decision by Mr. Ngoma to withdraw his resignation from the PF does not concern the commission.
Meanwhile Mr. Akufuna has condemned attempts by PF cadres in Shiwanga’ndu to bring down a UPND campaign helicopter yesterday as it was trying to land.
