POLICE in Pemba have launched a manhunt for a grade eight pupil who allegedly murdered her husband following a dispute after a drinking spree on Thursday.
Confirming the development, both Southern Province police commissioner Godwin Phiri and Pemba district board education secretary Victor Moyo named the deceased as Londe Kwendenda, who sustained head injuries after being hit with a brick by his wife.
“Pemba police station received a murder case in which male Swana Musumali, aged 36 years, of Chibolya compound in Pemba, reported that his step-brother, Londe Kwendenda, aged 30 years was murdered by his wife, Naomi Lungu, also of Chibolya after a marital dispute,” Phiri explained. “The deceased sustained an injury on the head after a stone/half brick was used in the act which occurred on Thursday around 19:00 hours at Mayuni market. No arrest has been made yet.”
Phiri said police have launched a manhunt for the suspect who is on the run.
And Moyo said the suspect was a pupil at Pemba Basic School who was enrolled last term under the re-entry policy.
“As authorities, we didn’t know that she was cohabiting because it’s difficult to control pupils who are not in boarding. The only report we have is that she went for a drinking spree with her lover and a quarrel ensued there,” said Moyo.
