Twenty One Zimbabwean nationals have been arrested in Siavonga District for entering the country illegally and fishing on the Zambian side of Lake Kariba without a license.
Siavonga District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama has disclosed to ZNBC News in an interview that the 21 are under police custody and will appear in court on Thursday.
Mr. Kanyama said police have also confiscated 7 rigs which were used by the 21 fishermen.
The arrest of the Zimbabweans comes barely 2 months after 8 Zambians were arrested in Zimbabwe for a similar offense.
The Eight Zambians were arrested after they were found fishing on the Zimbabwean side on Lake Kariba and were prosecuted and are serving their sentences in Zimbabwe.
Mr. Kanyama has however expressed shock that Zimbabwean authorities are calling for the release of their people when they have refused to release the 8 Zambians incarcerated in that country.
