ZESCO striker Winston Kalenga says he is overwhelmed and humbled by the three honours given to him after a fruitful 2015 football season.
Meanwhile, coach George Lwandamina dropped a big hint that Kalengo may be on his way out of Zesco United.
Kalengo on Thursday night dominated the MTN-FAZ awards gala held at Radison Blu on Thursday night, winning three of the four awards that were up for grabs to players and ended up with K60, 000.
Apart from winning the golden boot award, Kalengo also took the most disciplined player award in addition to the big one, the footballer of the year.
After picking up the third award, the 2015 footballer of the year,
Kalengo said the recognition of his efforts in the game were humbling adding there was no secret to his success story and gave tribute to God in a religion filled speech.
“I am humbled by the awards, there is no secret to this success, it is all because of God and I just want to thank Him for his Grace.
It is just a matter of time when God says yes, no one will say no,” Kalengo said.
The 30-year-old striker scored 18 goals in the league and that was besides the goals in other cup competitions and for the national team.
Asked on the coming season, Kalengo said the season would be tough in 2016 and that only the strong will survive.
“2016 soccer season will be tough only the strong will survive, though everything happens through Gods grace,” he said.
And Lwandamina, the Zambian 2015 Coach of the year, similarly thanked God for winning the top coaches award which came after he defended the MTN-FAZ super league title.
Lwandamina said he was not the best of coaches but it was opportunity that had given him the success in the 2015 soccer season.
He said defending the league was not an easy task and wining the MTN-FAZ title next season will be an ever tougher assignment.
“It won’t be easy to win the title next season and it won’t was not easy defending it either. I will take this opportunity to also thank the sponsors for their support. They have been magnificent,” Lwandamina said.
Asked on Kalengo’s influence in the just ended season and how he will impact the next, Lwandamina said it will be tough to defend the title should Kalengo leave the club for greener pasture outside the country.
He said Kalengo played a major role in their defending the league title and was an integral part of Zesco United.
“We will do our best to win the title, it will be difficult without Winston, he is an integral part of Zesco United, if he is going, I can only wish him the best of luck and only hope we can find a player like him,” Lwandamina said.
He added that Kalengo was a disciplined, focused and God fearing person and his attributes have paid off. Lwandamina further advised Kalengo to sustain the new status he has acquired in football.
“Winston is disciplined, focused and God fearing and it has paid off for what he is achieving, I only hope he will sustain his new status.
I know and have seen others fail but for him, I know he will manage to sustain this,” Lwandamina said.
