ABOUT 46 families in Kasempa district in North-Western Province have been left homeless after their houses collapsed following heavy rains, the district council has reported.
The houses collapsed on Tuesday last week in Kamusongolwa area.
Kasempa district council secretary Everty Ng’andu said from Kasempa on Wednesday the matter has since been reported to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) for intervention.
“The disaster occurred on the 24th of November, 2015 at Kamusongolwa area after heavy rains,” Mr Ng’andu said.
He said most of the victims are in desperate need of food and shelter as the roofs of their homes have been blown away.
Mr Ng’andu said several household goods and food stuffs were destroyed by the downpour.
“Our assessment report revealed that 46 households were affected but initially we had 45 households that were earlier captured,” he said.
Mr Ng’andu appealed to the central government to quickly come to the aid of the victims.
