SUDAN E S E s i d e E l Merreikh and Mozambican outfit Ferriaviaro Beira have expressed interest in signing Zesco United forward Winston Kalengo.
Zesco general secretary Justin Mumba confirmed in Ndola yesterday that the two sides have inquired about Kalengo’s services.
Mumba, however, said neither of the clubs has gotten back to Zesco after the inquiry.
Kalengo is also reported to have attracted interest from South African Premier Soccer League clubs, a claim Mumba denied.
“No club has officially gotten in touch with us yet except El Merreikh and Ferriaviaro Beira. The two clubs just inquired but have not yet gotten back,” Mumba said.
He said Zesco will not curtail players’ movements but that clubs interested in Kalengo should make their intentions before the Ndola-based side submits the list of players to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ahead of the 2016 Champions League.
Zesco are expected to submit the list of players to CAF on December 15.
“Once we submit the list to CAF, he won’t be for sale,” Mumba said.
Zesco will represent Zambia in the African Champions League while Zanaco are Confederation Cup envoys.
Kalengo banged in 19 goals in the 2015 season to clinch the Super Division topscorer award and scored six with the national team, among them two in Zambia’s 3-0 aggregate win over Sudan in the 2018 Russia World Cup qualifying race.
