A JEALOUS house wife of Eastern Province who accused her neighbour of having an affair with her husband has been fined K200 by the Chipata Local Court for defamation of character.
Ruth Mkandawila, 21, sued Eleness Njovu, 21, of Kwampondo Shanty Township demanding compensation for defamation of character.
Mkandawile told the senior magistrate Leonard Nkhata who was sitting with magistrate Tyson Mumba that her name had been tarnished by Njovu who accused her of sleeping with her husband without proof.
“I was called for a meeting at Njovu’s house where I found five other women gathered. There, I was asked if I was sleeping with Njovu’s husband. It was very humiliating for me. I was forced to accept that I was having an affair with him after she threatened to bewitch me if I denied,” she said.
