United Nations General Assembly President His Excellency Mr. Mogens Lykketoft has appointed Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the UN and her Swiss counterpart as co-facilitators of consultations leading to the convening of a High-Level meeting on HIV/AIDS.
In his letter to all Permanent Representatives and Permanent Observers to the UN dated 5 November 2015, Mr. Lykketoft expressed his confidence in the two Ambassadors to carry out the responsibility assigned to them.
“I refer to decision 68/555 entitled ‘Implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the Political Declarations on HIV/AIDS’ to convene a high-level meeting on HIV/AIDS in 2016, preferably in the second half of the year, and to undertake the necessary consultations to determine the modalities and organizational arrangements for such a meeting during the seventieth session of the General Assembly, but no later than December, 2015’,” Mr. Lykketoft stated. “In this regard, I have the honour to inform you that I have decided to appoint His Excellency Mr. Jürg Lauber, Permanent Representative of Switzerland and Her Excellency Dr. Mwaba Kasese-Bota, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Zambia as co-facilitators to lead open, inclusive and transparent consultations on all issues related to the preparations for this high-level meeting.”
The General Assembly President thanked Ambassadors Dr. Kasese-Bota and Mr. Lauber for accepting the responsibility.
“I trust you [Permanent Representatives and Permanent Observers] will extend your full cooperation and support to them,” Mr. Lykketoft stated.
