RETIRED Zambia Air Force officer Paul Pandala Banda has appeared in the Lusaka magistrate court in a case in which he is charged with the murder of his wife Vivian.
Banda appeared for mention before magistrate Jennifer Bwalya for explanation of the charge as the case is not triable by the magistrate’s court.
Banda, who appeared disoriented, told the court that he understood the charge and can only take plea in the High Court.
The State said Banda is yet to be committed to the High Court for trial as it has not yet received instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Banda is charged with murder and is alleged to have, on unknown dates, but between October 27 and 28, murdered his wife.
Banda is a retired colonel from the Zambia Air Force and is alleged to have shot his wife dead after a marital dispute.
He is also a lawyer and was allegedly severely beaten by his son after the shooting incident.
Banda was treated at the University Teaching Hospital before his arrest.
