A THIRTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD woman was killed by lightning in Katete while she was asleep with her husband in a thatched house in the early hours of yesterday.
Eastern Province commissioner of police Eugene Sibote said Joyce Banda, 31, was struck by lightning leaving her with severe burns.
Mr Sibote said in Chipata yesterday that Mrs Banda died on the spot while her husband was unhurt.
Mrs Banda, of Senior Chief Mbang’ombe, met her fate around 00:30 hours.
“Banda died on the spot after she sustained several burns and police who went to the scene around 04:00 hours found her dead,” he said.
The lightning struck during a downpour which left a trail of destruction. It also struck a tree nearby.
Meanwhile, the body of a one-month-old baby in Kabwe has been found in a coffin, which was buried in a shallow grave, KALUNGA MUSONDA reports from Kabwe.
And in Kapiri Mposhi a 60-year-old man has been brutally murdered by unknown people who dumped his body in a well at his farm.
Central Province police commissioner Lombe Kamukoshi said in an interview in Kabwe yesterday that the coffin containing the body of the infant was found buried at Mahesh Farm located on the Great North Road on Tuesday between 17:00 hours and 18:00 hours.
“Police received information from the owner of the farm that a coffin had been found in his farm,” Ms Kamukoshi said.
Ms Kamukoshi said inside the coffin there was a card bearing a name of a woman with the date October 10, 2015 from Natuseko Clinic and Kaputula settlement.
And a 60-year-old man of Kapiri Mposhi identified as Watson Phiri of Siziba farm in Fikola, has been killed and his body dumped in a well.
Ms Kamukoshi said the man had been missing for seven days and his body was retrieved from the well with multiple body injuries.
She said the body is in Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital mortuary awaiting post -mortem.
Meanwhile, police in Kabwe have picked a body of a man in his 40s near Kabwe Golf Course.
Ms Kamukoshi said the body was found around 10:30 hours with blood coming from the ears and nose.
