THE Kitwe Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 24-year-old man to 12 months imprisonment for stealing assorted jewellery valued at K40,000. In this case, Chalwe Chikashi of 1923 Kandabwe compound was charged with theft contrary to the Laws of Zambia. It was alleged that on September 20, 2015, whilst acting together with others unknown, Chikashi did steal assorted jewellery valued at K40,000, the property of Mary Lupande. Chikashi denied the charged. But in his mitigation, Chikashi asked the court to punish him and not send him to prison. But senior resident magistrate Daniel Musonda sentenced him to 12 months imprisonment. Earlier, during trial, it was heard that Chikashi gave the jewellery he stole to his wife, who was found with it.
