A SIAVONGA secondary school teacher has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a pupil over a girl.
Police in Siavonga on Tuesday morning arrested the teacher for allegedly assaulting Cheelo Choolwe, a grade twelve pupil at Siavonga Secondary School.
Choolwe said his teacher assaulted him last week on Tuesday around 21:00 hours at the roadside near Lake Kariba Inn.
“The whole issue is about my girlfriend, who is also a pupil at the same school. He met my girl at school one day and told her that she should stop seeing me and ordered her to start dating him. My girl refused his order, saying she didn’t want him since she had me already. So since that time, I became an enemy to my teacher. Now last week on Tuesday night, I was with my friends near Lake Kariba Inn when he and his fellow teachers in a vehicle saw us. He stopped his vehicle and came walking towards where I was standing. He grabbed me and without any reason, he threw blows on my face and slapped me while his friends were just watching. Thank God my two fellow pupils I was with rescued me but I sustained minor injuries on my face,” he narrated.
Choolwe said his teacher also searched his trouser pockets and went away with a wallet containing K800, a voters’ card and a national registration card in it shortly after he was beaten.
“Up to now I have not been given back my wallet,” said Choolwe.
The suspect has since been released on police bond.
Efforts to get a comment from Siavonga police proved futile by press time.
