A 46-YEAR-OLD man of Kabwe who stabbed his friend during a drinking spree last month has been jailed for two years.
Goodson Filayi was sent to jail for stabbing Amon Pempa on his left arm after a quarrel ensued while they were drinking beer on September 4 in Kabwe.
Magistrate Temwaninge M’hango handed down the sentence on Filayi of Makululu township after she found him guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The court noted that it was not in dispute that Filayi stabbed Pempa on his left arm, and the matter was reported to Kasanda Police Station where the latter was issued with a medical report.
Filayi stabbed Pempa when he tried to stop him from fighting with another man over a woman.

In mitigation, Filayi told the court that he has seven children and three orphans under his care.
“Your honour, if I am sent to jail, my children will suffer as I have no one to take care of them. And these past days that I have spent in jail, I have learnt a lot,” Filayi said.
And in passing judgement, Ms M’hango told Filayi that she considered his mitigation, however, the hardship that his family would face was because of his own actions.
“I have noted that you are a first offender and I will send you to prison for two years for this offence that you committed,” she said.
