EIGHT UPND supporters were yesterday rearrested at the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court shortly after the state discontinued a matter in which they were charged with unlawful assembly.
It is alleged that Cindy Kauka and seven others on September 16, 2015 in Lusaka jointly and whilst acting with other persons unknown, being part of an unlawful assembly, executed a common purpose by a breach of the peace and to the terror of the public.
When the case came up for mention, the state applied to withdraw the case in order to have the accused persons jointly charged with others.
Lusaka magistrate, Prince Mwiinga, granted the application, saying the accused were free to go.
However, as soon as the accused persons came out of the courtroom, police officers rearrested them.
The cadres, who wore smiles initially, got shocked as they seemed not to understand what was happening while being rearrested.
