Unknown people have stolen an X-ray machine from Serenje district hospital.
Acting Serenje District Commissioner Kenny Mungendenge has confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview.
Mr. Mungendenge said the portable Philips X-ray machine valued at K400, 000 was last weekend stolen from Serenje district hospital X-ray department in the night.
He said the machine was discovered missing on Monday when radiographers wanted use it.
He said the matter has since been reported to police.
Mr. Mungendenge said the police have since been ordered to expedite investigations in order to bring the culprits to book.
“That is tax payers’ money that was used to purchase that machine so that anyone who needs an X-ray can go to the hospital and utilize the services of the machine but one or few individuals want to benefit at the expense of all,” he said.
He has also appealed to members of the public to help police with information that can lead to the recovery of the hospital equipment and the arrest of the thieves.
Central Province Police Commissioner Lombe Kamukoshi said she would only give details of the matter after the experts that were sent to Serenje to investigate the matter get on the ground.
“It is too early for me to say something. We have sent experts to investigate the matter and they will be there soon. So let them get on the ground and I will talk to you,” Ms. Kamukoshi said.
