TWO people have been beaten to death in separate incidents in Chambishi and Mufulira on the Copperbelt.
In Mufulira, Kelvin Simwaka, aged 29, was beaten and left unconscious near a drinking spot while in the Chambishi brawl, 30-year-old Moses Makai was beaten to death during a drinking spree.
Both incidents were confirmed by Copperbelt Police Commissioner Joyce Kasosa yesterday.
Ms Kasosa said Mr Simwaka died on arrival at Ronald Ross Hospital where he was rushed for treatment. He sustained a deep cut on his head.
“We have received a report in which a 29-year-old man of Kantanshi Township in Mufulira has been murdered by unknown people. It is suspected that he was beaten and left unconscious at a bar but
members of the public picked him and rushed him to Ronald Ross Hospital where he later died,” she said.
As for Mr Makai’s death, Ms Kasosa said the deceased was hit with a stick during a quarrel.
Ms Kasosa said the incident happened on Monday this week and that the deceased resided at house number 20, Zambia Township.
Ms Kasosa said Mr Makai was on a drinking spree at one of the bars in Chambishi when around 16:30 hours he picked up a quarrel with another man only identified as Jeff, of no fixed abode.
She said in the ensuing fight, the assailant picked a stick which he used to hit the deceased on the head, causing a deep cut.
Ms Kasosa said soon after the fight, the suspect fled while the victim was rushed to Chambishi Hospital where he died upon arrival.
