First Lady Esther Lungu says Zambia needs much stiffer laws to punish defilers and perpetrators of Gender Based Violence -GBV-.

Mrs. Lungu says the rising cases of defilement and Gender Based Violence is worrisome.

Speaking in Ngabwe District during her outreach programme, Mrs. Lungu says she is hopeful that government will expedite the formulation of new laws that will sternly deal with culprits of defilement and GBV.

She says girls will no longer be safe in the country if the vice is not halted.

Mrs. Lungu says girls in some parts of the country are now scared to access education for fear of being either raped or defiled by unsuspecting males in their areas.

She however praised traditional leaders that are dealing with culprits in their respective chiefdoms.

The First Lady also urged girls to protect themselves by avoiding vices and activities that may attract the attention of defilers.

  1. How is that possible when her husband pardons them and makes ambassordas. That statement is simply mocking the intelligence of the Zambian people. Madam first lady! Don’t just read speeches to please the people. Talk of facts and not imagination, make things happen and not wish for them to happen.
