POLICE in Luwingu have recorded a warn-and-caution statement from United Party for National Development (UPND) Lubansenshi parliamentary by-election candidate Patrick Mucheleka over his alleged involvement in the assault of Luwingu district commissioner Patrick Chanda by suspected party cadres.
Northern Province acting commissioner of police Lackson Sakala said in an interview that Mr Mucheleka reported to Luwingu Police Station around 08:30 hours yesterday.
Mr Sakala said Mr Mucheleka was accompanied by his lawyer Gilbert Lungu and the UPND Lubansenshi parliamentary by- election campaign manager Bernard Mpundu.
“A warn-and-caution statement has been recorded from Mr Mucheleka on allegations of his involvement in assaulting Mr Chanda,” Mr Sakala said.
Mr Mpundu also confirmed that police in Luwingu had warned and cautioned Mr Mucheleka.
Police arrested six UPND cadres for allegedly assaulting Mr Chanda and these appeared in court on Monday.
Trial starts next week.
