Two people have died while others are nursing serious injuries after a Mwinilunga-Ndola bound Likili bus registration number ACZ 2 overturned at Kabompo river.
This happened after the driver failed to negotiate a curve due to alleged over speeding.
Mwinilunga Acting District Commissioner Shayama Mangalilo who confirmed the incident in an interview with ZANIS in Mwinilunga yesterday said the accident happened around 06:00 hours and identified the deceased as Cindy Nakawala aged 36 and her one year seven months old baby Suwilanji Chanda.
Mr Mangalilo who said it is sad that the district has continued to record fatal traffic accidents and losing innocent lives along Mwinilunga-Solwezi road due to carelessness by some motorists.
He observed that the idea of public bus drivers over speeding rushing for customers is a major cause of most accidents recorded in the district and has since called on the local authority in the area to regulate the starting off time of intercity buses from 04:00 hour am to 05:30 am to avoid tragedies.
Mr Mangalilo has also appealed to the Road Development Agency to put proper road signage along Mwinilunga-Solwezi road.
They were 35 people on board the bus and a check by ZANIS yesterday afternoon found 14 accident victims receiving treatment at the district hospital and their conditions have been described as stable.
