The opposition UPND has expressed concern over reports suggesting that cadres are forcing bus drivers and operators to pay illegal levies at bus stations like Lusaka’s intercity.
UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has alleged that this is being made possible because the intercity bus station is allegedly controlled by PF cadres.
Mr. Hichilema is disturbed that PF cadres are making the transport sector in Zambia generally difficult for the bus drivers and operators.
He says what is unfortunate however is that government has deliberately ignored the Bus Stations and Market Act to allow such a situation to carrying on in this long.
Mr. Hichilema thinks what is happening at Lusaka’s intercity bus station amounts to lawlessness because bus drivers and operators are supposed to operate freely without intimidation or harassment.
