How to cut on Expenditure
Last week I took a walk around one of the government ministries and was shocked with what I saw. Below is what I came across!
There are over fifty four by fours vehicles around this yard and to my amazement, I saw some people getting spares from one of the vehicles. I went to ask someone who washes cars in that same place and he told me that big man people get spares from these government vehicles at will and some of these cars came here with four tyres but are now sitting on rims.
My worry is that we have a ministry that is responsible for Transport and one wonders what the Minister does in that ministry. If we are to go round all the ministries, you will be shocked to see just how many vehicles that are repairable and are left to be source of spares for personal vehicles. In some of these ministries, there is no security which means anyone can get there and help himself.
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE BY THOSE IN AUTHORITY!
- Gather all these cars have them repaired and let ECZ use them and save the money ECZ is using to hire four-by Fours from individuals. The same vehicles can be used for election purposes. This will save government so much money and we will make our country a better country. One thousand two hundred kwacha per day for ninety days for every hired four by four is a lot of money and can go a long way in sorting out transport problems
- Auction the vehicles after the elections and use the money to buy more cars. If an entity was set up, it will ensure that money revolves and this will end up helping the government save the much needed resources.
- Ministries should account for the vehicles in their custody whether running or no runners.
- If the Ministry of Transport has proved not to be able to manage this, a new State Entity must be set up
WHAT SHOULD NOT BE DONE
You cannot auction these vehicles in the condition they are in because it will be wasting government resources.
