THE Livingstone High Court has sentenced a 56-year-old farmer to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for indecently assaulting his 18-year-old daughter.
Saviour Muzovu of Dingeza area in Maamba, who sneaked into his daughter’s room in the night in underwear, was sent to jail by Justice Lishomwa Muuka.
Particulars of the case are that on March 9, 2013, Muzovu entered his daughter’s room which does not have a door, but the entrance is only covered with a cloth.
The victim was sleeping with her younger siblings when her father started touching her, while calling her name.
Testifying in court, the victim said Muzovu shamefully left the room when she woke up and demanded to know what he was doing in her bedroom.
She told the court that her father was only wearing underwear when he entered her room and started touching her in an indecent manner.
The girl further testified that she knew that it was her father who had entered her room because she recognised his voice when he was calling her name.
In the morning after the incident, the victim informed her mother about it, and that she was upset and confused about her husband’s act.
The complainant and her mother later went to Maamba Police Station to report the matter.
Before the court pronounced his sentence, Muzovu prayed for leniency, saying he did not know what he was doing.
