Kenya’s academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyongo has returned to her native country. Nyongo says she will advocate globally for elephants with international conservation organisation WildAid.
As the Global Ambassador for Wild Aid, the actress will be campaigning against trade in ivory and the need to protect elephants and their habitats.
Kenya is currently home to 33 000 elephants down to 170 000 in 1979. A demand for rhino horns and ivory in Asia has driven poaching to an all-time high according to conservationists.
Lupita rose to world fame last year after bagging an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the film 12 Years A Slave. She says she never dreamed of winning the prestigious award and she believes that it will open more doors for her.
