TWO United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres and a Patriotic Front (PF) supporter are nursing gunshot wounds after the two rival groups clashed in Mulobezi.
Police spokesperson Charity Chanda said in an interview that the incident happened yesterday around 11:00 hours in Sichili.
Mrs Chanda said police have instituted investigations into the shooting to establish which of the rival groups discharged the firearm.
Mrs Chanda named the injured as Mbangu Mbangu, 36, Sakubita Namushi, 30, both UPND members, while the PF cadre has been identified as Simanga Siboli, 37.
“We recovered two empty cartridges at the scene and one of the injured was rushed to Livingstone Central Hospital to have the bullet removed after medical officers in Mulobezi failed to do so,” she said.
Mrs Chanda said the incident happened after the two rival camps had a misunderstanding, which resulted in the clash.
“We are actively investigating this matter so that we know exactly what happened, after which we will be able to give more details,” Mrs Chanda said.
She said no arrests have been made so far.
People of Mulobezi go to the polls today to elect their member of Parliament in a by-election.
