Zesco United made easy work of Lusaka Dynamos as they cruised to a 4 – 0 victory in a Week 15 fixture at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday.
Dynamos coped well in the opening exchanges but their resilience did not last long as Kondwani Mtonga broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute and six minutes later Winston Kalengo added a second.
Clatous Chama netted the third in the 52nd minute and just twelve minutes later the league champions completed their scoring through Mwape Mwelwa.
Both Kalengo and Mwelwa had registered their names on the score sheet in the mid week win over Nchanga Rangers on Wednesday.
The result kept Zesco United in third position with 26 points, three behind leaders Zanaco, whilst Lusaka Dynamos dropped from sixth to eighth with 21 points.
In Choma, league leaders Zanaco went a goal down to a 4th minute goal from Adamson Mulawo but recovered quickly to equalise from the penalty spot eight minutes later through Moses Phiri.
Rodrick Kabwe gave the visitors the lead on 23 minutes before Aubrey Funga added a third in the 70th minute.
Two quickfire goals in the last ten minutes from Mulawo and Mwila Phiri ensured that the hosts had a share of the spoils.
The result meant that Zanaco’s lead at the top was cut to two points following Power Dynamos 1 – 0 victory over Forest Rangers.
Green Eagles dropped into 13th position with 15 points.
At Arthur Davies Stadium, a 38th minute goal by Martin Phiri was enough for Power Dynamos to collect maximum points against Forest Rangers and to maintain second position with 27 points from 13 games.
In Chingola, Nchanga Rangers recovered ftom their midweek against Zesco United with a 1 – 0 victory over Nkana thanks to a late goal by Aubrey Chamulwanda.
Victory for Nchanga means they end the first half of the season outside of the bottom four teams in 12th position with 15 points while Nkana are in 11th position with 17 points.
At Woodlands Stadium, goals from Percy Biliyoti and Friday Samu gave Green Buffaloes a 2 – 0 victory over National Assembly.
And at Edwin Imboela Stadium, it was Emmanuel Kasonde’s second half goal which sealed victory for the hosts in a tightly contested Lusaka derby.
At Konkola Stadium, Happy Kaunda and Graven Chitalu scored a goal apiece to register a 2 – 0 victory over Patrick Phiri’s Nakambala Leopards.
Meanwhile, Red Arrows failed to capitalise on home ground advantage as they played out a goalless draw with Mufulira Wanderers at Nkoloma Stadium.
The league will now enter a two week recess with action scheduled to resume on July 18.
The top six ranked teams after fifteen rounds of matches qualify for the Barclays Cup and this year if the same qualification format is used the qualified teams from the Super League are: Zanaco, Power Dynamos, Zesco United, Nkwazi, Green Buffaloes and Mufulira Wanderers.
Another team which has qualified is Lumwana Radiants who are mid – season champions in the FAZ Division One North League after 17 rounds of matches.
The final spot for the Barclays Cup Competition will be completed by the team which finishes top of the FAZ Division One South League after 17 rounds pending decisions of the FAZ Disciplinary Committee.
